SPEAKING
Speaker Dr. Dawnn Karen is an inventor, mental health expert, sartorial specialist, writer, pundit, model, sexual assault survivor, and activist. A healer through discovery and transparency at heart, she joins these various elements to assist others in getting to the root in hopes of returning ultimately to the self.
Dawnn Karen began her journey at Teachers College, Columbia University
in her training to be a therapist. It was there she experienced a sexual assault that would give her purpose for the next several years of her life. She began healing herself with a new innovative modality that delved into healing yourself through clothing. The new subdiscipline of psychology called the fashion psychology field was born. Soon after creating theories, researching, and working with clients, she landed a position at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She became the first black female professor and the youngest professor to teach. It is there that she faced countless bouts of discrimination. Students and faculty rallied around her in allyship after she told her story to the New York Times. Through the trials and tribulations of life, she did not stop and continued pioneering her fashion psychology field to thousands of people around the world. Whether it means pioneering a field through tv, radio, magazine, newspaper, lecture halls, conferences, workshops, webinars, and the like she believes in bringing
"the science behind why we wear what we wear" to all.
Dawnn Karen is the author of Dress Your Best Life- How to Use Fashion Psychology to take your Look and your Life to the next level. Her book (the official textbook of the Fashion Psychology Field) chronicles her and her clients' relationship between attitude and attire through many facets of life. A powerful and personable speaker, she is a superb choice for institutions, organizations, and any group that wants
to style from the inside out.
